Development - Facts
Back from a Seattle Eco-Industrial
tour this past July 2009, we learned of the following savings taken
by voluntary action from the following organizations:
Boeing’s Renton
Plant, Renton, Washington, U.S.A.: Worked with Puget Sound Energy
and Electric Motor Management to cut energy use in industrial tank lines
for printed circuit board manufacturing. Purchased energy efficient
distribution transformers for the building at $320 each. Saved $3,740
in heating costs and $5,000 on maintenance annually. Saved $7,838
on electricity.
Amital Spinning Corporation,
New Bern, North Carolina, U.S.A.: Delivered chemicals and dyes in either
bulk quantities or in 400-gallon returnable totes. Recycled waste
products back into the same process or sold to external customers.
Saved $175,000 annually through reduction of chemicals and
dyes and $26,100 in avoided drum disposal/handling costs.
Saved $100,000 in solid waste costs.
American Water Heater
Company, Johnson City, Tennessee, U.S.A.: Implemented compressed
air system optimization project. Saved $160,000 annually and 2,345,000 kWH. Improved
product quality, reduced maintenance costs and increased production
by 12% annually.
Boise Cascade Mill,
International Falls, Minnesota, U.S.A.: Re-routed turbine room steam
to capture the heat and re-used it to heat water in hotwells.
Saved an estimated $707,000 annually.
Jorgenson Forge, Seattle, Washington,
U.S.A.: Installed variable speed drive installations on colling tower
fans, baghouse fans and pumps. Saved $53,000 annually with a payback of 2.1 years.
